Why does Tyme Wear have three thresholds, when most systems only have one?
Traditional training relies on one known result, for example your FTP or Critical Power, that estimate the remaining zones. In reality, the result of an all out 20-30 min time trial is not reflective of your fat burning (VT1) or your VO2max ability. With Tyme Wear, each zone is specifically measured for you and your unique physiology.
How does the Tyme Wear test work?
Each test takes just 10-15 mins. After warming up on your bike or run, there will be a ramp that ends with the last 2-3 mins considered a hard effort. Our users consider this test significantly less taxing than traditional FTP tests or time trials.
Is Tyme Wear better than going to your lab utilizing a metabolic cart and getting zones from there?
Tyme Wear’s threshold detection has been validated against a metabolic cart and was found to be as accurate across 200 tests. With lab testing you only receive a snapshot of your results on the day of the test. With Tyme Wear we continuously build upon your threshold results during every workout you track with Tyme Wear.
How will mapping of your run and bike ventilatory physiology help me in future seasons?
By understanding in real time how you body responds to training stimuli, you will learn how to structure your training to optimize your unique physiology.
Will my zones change over time?
YES! With Tyme Wear, we are able to detect small changes in how your body utilizes energy (what your zones are reflective of) and we update your zones to reflect these changes in real time. You can order a test at anytime in the future to understand how your training is effecting your zones. All testing will be including in future reports.
What are my ventilatory thresholds?
Ventilatory thresholds are reflective of how your body uses energy to produce work. Traditional zone models estimate where your thresholds are to create the traditional 5 or more zones. Tyme Wear measures your actual thresholds and builds your zones from them. Each threshold is unique to only you! Every workout you do should be specific to your thresholds.
Do I need to wear the Tyme Wear shirt for every workout?
It is not necessary, but the more you wear and record your data from your Tyme Wear shirt, the more we can help you improve as an athlete.
How do my thresholds improve my training?
It is not necessary, but the more you wear and record your data from your Tyme Wear shirt, the more we can help you improve as an athlete.
How Do I Use Thresholds In My Training?
Since your thresholds represent key levels for your different energy systems, training at those intensities allows you to improve your athletic output at those key levels. This doesn’t mean that you have to race at those paces or power levels but training at them is the best way to improve overall fitness.
How Is Tyme Wear Different From Other Devices?
Tyme Wear accurately measures your 3 ventilatory thresholds while other devices rely on formulas that were never intended to be applied to the general public nor dictate the way people train. A study comparing the effectiveness of training with accurate thresholds and standard heart rate formulas found that only 40% of athletes improved when using heart rate formulas despite training for 12 weeks. In the group using metabolic thresholds, all 12 subjects improved more than the daily fluctuation threshold and they improved 2.5x more on average.
Why Is Heart Rate Inaccurate At Estimating Zones?
Heart rate estimations rely on formulas that are based on population averages. Even if you measure one number related to your fitness, no formula can estimate all 3 of your thresholds accurately because they are independent of one another.
How Does Tyme Wear Measure My Thresholds?
Tyme Wear measures your breathing during a 15 minute ramp protocol and identifies your thresholds as inflection points in your Tyme Wear data. Tyme Wear then provides you with your threshold values in the Pace, Power, and Heart Rate that you’re used to training with along with Breathing Rate, Tidal Volume and Minute Ventilation from the Tyme Wear shirt.
