Wahoo Bike Computers

Your Wahoo ELEMNT Ace, Bolt 3 and Roam 3 bike computers can connect to the Tymewear VitalPro heart rate and breathing sensor, you can view and record your data and synchronise automatically to your Tymewear Account.

Compatible Wahoo ELEMNT bike computers

The native integration of Tymewear ventilation data is available on the Generation 3 wahoo Ace, Bolt 3 and Roam 3 bike computers.

For earlier generation wahoo bike computers, only the VitalPro heart rate monitor can be connected.

Installation Requirements

This requires the latest version Wahoo companion app for the smart phone:
Android: 6.86.0
iOS App: 6.86.1

And it requires the latest software for the ELEMNT:
Version 3.25.2.3 302533

Depending on the phone options and settings, the Wahoo Smartphone App may update automatically or need to be manually updated.

For the ELEMNT firmware, by default the software will update automatically using a connected Wifi network or can be updated manually. Please check the details instructions from Wahoo: Update firmware on ELEMNT ACE, BOLT 3, or ROAM 3

Setup your Wahoo ELEMENT

There are three steps to setup your Wahoo:
1. Pair the VitalPro Sensors
2. Setup the Workout Profiles
3. Connect your Wahoo account with Tymewear

1. Pairing the VitalPro Sensors

Both the VitalPro Heart Rate Sensor and Breathing Sensor are paired following the standard approach and once paired, when they are awake and in range will then automatically connect.

Follow these steps to connect the VitalPro Breathing Sensor and the Heart Rate Sensor.

  1. Ensure the sensor is awake and near the computer.
  2. From the Ready to Ride page that first appears, select either Pair Sensor or the (+) button
  3. Note: the same functions can be found on the My Sensors page, accessed by tapping the button on the left side of the unit once to access the Device Settings page and then swiping one page to the right.
  4. Select the VitalPro Breathing Sensor or Heart Rate Sensor from the list that appears using the touchscreen.
  5. The Vital Breathing Sensor data will likely not already be present on your pages so choose Yes if prompted o add any associated data fields to your computer's pages. You can also modify the page layouts later.
  6. You will then see a pairing success screen
  7. Once paired, (and still awake), the sensor will appear in the saved sensors list. If connected, the sensor will appear in full color, showing battery level as a fuel gauge (or text percentage on the My Sensors page) and displaying any data the sensor is transmitting at that moment, so you can confirm the viability of the connection. If a sensor is asleep or not in range, it will show as grayed out or disconnected.
  8. Sensor details and settings, can be accessed by selecting the the sensor using the touchscreen.

Pairing using the Wahoo app

Because the ELEMNT ACE and ROAM 3 offer multi-touch control and a large, high-definition screen, and the Wahoo app also offer the ability to pair sensors directly to the app when the app is used as an activity recorder (the Record tab), the ELEMNT ACE and ROAM 3 do not support indirect sensor pairing via the Wahoo app. Once a sensor is paired to an ELEMNT computer, however, sensor info and available settings may be accessed from the Wahoo app > Devices tab > ELEMNT > sensor name. From this screen, you can also change the name of the sensor.

Pairing Troubleshooting

If you're having trouble pairing your sensor, try these steps to ensure it's working properly.

  • Wakeup the VitalPro by wearing it.
  • Ensure it is in range
  • Ensure your sensor is fully unpaired with all previous devices and apps (including the Wahoo app).
  • Check that you have the latest Firmware and App versions
  • Replace the battery.
  • Use the Tymewear App to connect

If you are still facing issues, please write to support@tymewear.com and share the details for your VitalPro and your wahoo and steps you have tried.

2. Setup the Workout Profiles

To view and record the VitalPro ventilation and heart rate data, the metrics need to be added to the onscreen display and these steps should be follows to add data to each individual Workout Profile.

  1. Using the Wahoo companion App on the smart phone, select 'Devices' in the menu and connect with your ELEMNT (ensure it is on)
  2. Select Workout profiles and then the specific profile you want to update
  3. Select an existing page (or add a new one in the top right menu)
  4. Choose 'Add data field' > 'Ventilation' and choose the relevant insights to add
    1. Breathing Rate
    2. Minute Ventilation (5 sec)
    3. Minute Ventilation (60 sec)
    4. Tidal Volume

For Heart Rate (bpm), follow the same steps and add 'Heart rate' > 'Heart Rate (bpm)'

During the setup in the Wahoo companion app, if your Wahoo ELEMNT shows the start screen, you will see the data fields as well as the live data from the VitalPro Breathing Sensor and Heart Rate sensor if you are wearing it.

It takes ca. 10 seconds for heart rate data to appear and up to 30 seconds for the breathing sensor to connect and data to appear on screen.

3. Connect your Wahoo account with Tymewear

When you record an activity with ventilation and heart rate data from Tymewear, you can automatically synchronise these from your wahoo account to your Tymewear Account.

  1. Open your Tymewear Dashboard: https://dashboard.tymewear.com
  2. Select the menu "Integrations" (Linked Accounts)
  3. Follow the onscreen prompts to connect your Wahoo account

After completing these steps, activities you record on your ELEMNT that are available on your Wahoo account will also synchronise automatically to your Tymewear account and be visible in the Tymewear Dashboard and Tymeweara App.
